Strabismus is a misalignment of the eyes. In either case, the eye can be aligned inward or outward. It is also referred to as lazy eye. We treat strabismus here at our office. It can be effectively treated resulting in a realignment of the eyes.
Strabismus does not leave on its own, so treatment is required. One or both eyes may turn up, down, in or out. The turn of the eye may be intermittent or constant. Both eyes do not line up simultaneously, so one eye appears to wander off in the opposite direction.
Vision therapy is effective in treating strabismus. It is used to address eye alignment, eye teaming, eye focusing abilities, eye movements and visual processing. The program is designed to treat the needs of the individual. Among those treatments is orthoptics, which is eye muscle training. If you aren’t satisfied with the results of non-surgical treatment, you can opt for surgery, which is usually very effective.
